Backpacking Vietnam: Day 1 & 2 Saigon

This was my first backpacking trip with Cass where we travelled Vietnam from South to North for a total of 18 days. I went to the airport with my giant backpack on the bus to save moolah which was nice (that ended when I came back to Singapore and took a cab instead). We walked around a lot and ate lots of street food on tiny stools that was actually rather uncomfortable. The food was good and really cheap and I was amused by how people simply sat outside shops and drank beer at night (we did not join in). We booked a tour to the Cu Chi tunnels for our 2nd day as well as an open bus ticket to our next several destinations at a small travel agency near our hotel. That was one of the few mistakes we made on this trip and where we were exposed to the multitude of scams in Vietnam. Don't take get open bus ticket and definitely don't take one from Viet Nhat travel. More on the open bus ticket scam in the next few posts to come. We thought we were saving money but no, we were just getting scammed. The Cu Chi tunnels on the other hand, was pretty interesting to see and made us very hot and sweaty as we climbed through the tunnels. It was a lot easier for us since we were short, so we didn't even really have to crawl.
