Suluban Beach, Bali

balancing on rock pools

Sunset dinner with an amazing view
Since our hotel was in the Jimbaran area, we hired a driver for 6 hours to bring us to the Uluwatu area and were struggling to keep within the time. Our plan was to check out Padang Padang beach, Suluban beach and the Uluwatu temple. We didn't like Padang Padang beach (also known as the Eat, Pray, Love beach) as it was super tiny and crowded so we quickly made our way to Suluban beach instead. Unfortunately, we loved it so much we did not have time to see the Uluwatu temple. Suluban beach was definitely more lovely and magical, with amazing rock formations surrounding us. We first had to climb down many stairs and then even more stairs into a partially exposed cave looking place. Once at the bottom, a friendly local showed us the way by crouching through caves and waiting for the waves to recede to get across. It was really exciting. When we entered the beach I was so amazed at how the cliffs loomed over us and the almost empty beach (I just love empty spaces).

We stayed there for the majority of our time sun tanning, playing in the waves and exploring the exposed rock pool in the evening as the tide receded. The beach is not that ideal for swimming as the bottom is rather rocky and the waves can be quite strong, though not as strong as Kuta beach.

Sadly, we had to leave the magical beach. We went up more stairs to find food to sooth our hungry bellies and had dinner at an Italian restaurant overlooking the sea. I had a pizza and Cass had fish and we sipped on fruit smoothies while watching the sunset. It was incredible as we could see tiny surfers doing their surfing moves out in the sea.

I am definitely going back, especially for dinner.
